WEEK TWO JOURNAL/SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

Journaling Time: Take about ten minutes after this talk: Make a table with 4 columns in your journal or use the PDF: Write the following 4 headings: Lie, think through some of the lies that you are currently believing about yourself., When do I most often hear this lie, in what situations, or in my past, when have these lies been spoken the loudest. Scripture to contradict that Lie, pray for God to show you in scripture His words that speak the truth against these lies. Finally The TRUTH that God reveals to you through that scripture. This last step may take time to reveal itself or for you to believe it, but it is an important step in beginning to replace the lies we tell ourselves with the actual truth God wants us to know.

  • At home, when you use this practice in prayer, write the lie on one side of an index card, write the scriptural truth on the other, then tape that card anywhere that you can be reminded of the truth. eg. bathroom mirror, bible, fridge etc.

  • With each lie ask yourself, Do I know where/ when/ how I first started believing this lie? If certain memories come to mind, give them to Jesus and ask him to uproot the lie right from where it started. Ask Him every day if you need to.

  • What are some concrete steps that you can take to uproot and overcome the control that this lie has in your life?

  • Books we recommend: Unbound by Neil Lozano and/or  Be Healed by Dr Bob Schuchts

Small Group Questions:

  1. What stood out to you about this talk? Was there something new that struck you?

  2. If you had to describe how tight you think your belt is in relation to where Jesus is in your life, what would it be? 1: Tight 2: Loose 3: Pants falling down and if you are willing to share, why?

  3.  When in your life has the belt been tight around your waist? When has it not? What was different about these times?

  4.  If you are comfortable sharing, what is one of the lies that you have struggled with in your life? Is this a lie you would like to rid yourself of? If so, why and which of the practical steps do you think would help the most? Getting to know Jesus, Prayer, Showing up to Sacraments, Seeking the women out first.

  5. Depending on how you answered question two, where do you hope to be at the end of this series and beyond? What steps do you hope to take to reach your goal? If your answer for question two was ‘tight’ what has helped you?
